What unites us? – Undoubtedly! The Planet we stand on. Yes. Earth is what we all have in common!
Needless to mention, Earth is the most beautiful and the only planet where life exists. Guarding like a parent, mother earth has acquainted living beings with more than enough to fulfill their necessities. Sadly, the smartest living beings on this planet i.e. humans have done everything in their power to ruin the environment and the ecosystem they are blessed to be a part of.
This earth day let’s try to understand how we humans have spoiled the natural environment of mother earth and what we can do to preserve it for coming generations.
How Humans Are Destroying The Earth?
Humans were thought to be a boon to nature, meant to preserve and safeguard the earth’s natural environment at every step. Unfortunately, humans have misunderstood their role and have turned out to be the deadliest curse to nature.
Here’s how humans are exploiting the mother earth:
1. Deforestation:
Forests and greenery are an integral part of Planet Earth. Forests not only help cleanse and balance the ecosystem but also provide shelter to a ‘n’ number of species. Sadly, we humans have disturbed this by cutting down forests and greenery in the name of industrialization and urbanization.
Deforestation is now one of the most alarming environmental concerns that has led to all other environmental hazards. Cutting down greenery from the planet is like wounding the mother earth to the deepest scars. And if this continues at the current rate, it will take less than 100 years to destroy all the greenery that comes from the rain forests on the earth, turning bountiful earth into a meagre barren piece of land.
2. Increase in Population:
Human overpopulation is one of the main causes of the depletion of natural resources. The world’s population has increased from 1 Billion in 1800 to 7.7 Billion in 2020. And there’s no holding back to date.
The increase in global population means increasing requirements and over usage or exploitation of natural resources. Every time a natural resource is used, the earth needs a generous amount of time to regenerate it. Sadly, the usage of resources is at a rate that is much higher than its replenishment rate. This naturally leads to disturbance and an extra burden on the earth’s store of natural resources resulting in a range of environmental conditions, one of the deadliest of which is- climate change.
3. Rise in pollution:
Pollution has been and is still a major environmental concern. Air, water, land there’s nothing that’s pollution free. The activities of humans like deforestation, increasing population, improper dumping of waste, exploitation of natural resources and many more have led to environmental damage resulting in a range of medical conditions as well as irreversible harm to the earth’s natural aura.
To name a few, global warming, depletion of ozone layer, loss of biodiversity and acid rain are some of the worst implications of rising pollution.
4. Use of pesticides and chemicals:
In the greed to procure more from mother earth, humans have added pesticides, chemicals, toxins, plastic, synthetic fertilizers, steroids, etc to the planet Earth. This not only has polluted the environment but has also resulted in the deterioration of the health of all living species on the earth. Further, overuse or prolonged use of harmful substances and toxins leads to inevitable damage that is fatal to all forms of life on Earth.
What We Can Do To Reverse The Damage?
Reversing the damage has never been and will never be an easy task. However, joining hands and making generous attempts in the right direction will definitely help us protect the environment from further damage.
Here’s how we can help our mother Earth:
1. Reduce Pollution:
One of the foremost steps we must take to protect our environment is reducing pollution by all possible means and at all levels. Pollution is like a fungus that’s deteriorating and killing the mother’s earth’s natural aura with each passing day. Proper disposal of waste, afforestation, reducing plastic usage and switching to an eco-friendly lifestyle are some of the best ways to reduce environmental pollution.
2. go organic:
Minimizing the usage of chemicals, pesticides, toxins, plastics and all other hazardous matter will bring a significant change in the environment. Adopting a clean and organic lifestyle will not only benefit health but will also protect and shield the earth from further damage and environmental sufferings.
3. Spread Awareness:
Knowledge is the king and we have known this ever since the inception of mankind. Spreading awareness on environmental concerns helps sensitize the public. Plus, it gives a sense of belonging- which is extremely important in order to save the planet mother earth.
Wrapping Up:
The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it! No. Earth is the planet where we live and thus it is our duty to protect it. Most of the time we fail to understand and accept the fact that every big or small decision we make can either make or break the ground beneath us. Nature has always healed us and given us more than we require. In tough times like these, it’s our core responsibility to protect mother earth by all possible means.
One of the easiest ways of doing this is switching to an organic, clean, sustainable, pollution-free lifestyle. This not only will help to protect and strengthen nature but will also help reverse the damage to a certain extent.
In a nutshell, This Earth Day let’s vow to Go green before green goes!
